if the quality of the BC executives continues to deteriorate, as it has in recent years, where there is no one capable of understanding the sport and continues to make ridiculous decisions ie- running the cup races on synthetics (and 2 years in a row) and at bankrupt racing venues, participation by good horses is a moot point.

Bob, You misread the article. It references football as how championships should not be determined.

About your undefeated horse who gets injured. He could be voted Horse of Year.

Sorry Bill but this idea just doesn't fly. The Eclipse awards are based on a horse's body of work over an entire year, not the performance on a single day.

Under your proposal a horse could (for example) have an undefeated season, winning several G1 stakes and suffer a minor injury that would preclude it from participating in the BC. Another horse without any G1 or even G2 victories could win the BC race and walk away with the Eclipse.

You reference football as the example of how the championships (Eclipse Awards) should be determined. A better comparison is Formula One, IndyCar and NASCAR where the championship is not determined by any single race but rather by the accumulated performance of an entire season.
