MEB:

How can Mr. Shanklin's be "the most rational analysis" on the subject of equine racetrack/industry mortality when it too, is incomplete? For that matter, why is this information not readily available by a National Racing entity? Why is this being pulled together by AP in the first place?

As to "hysterics", I'd say that is a loaded word. I'd say that poster is angry about the number of deaths and the disposable nature of these living, breathing, give-us-their-all athletes (I'd throw jocks in there too) by the race game in general.

The lack of civility re: moron does tend to discredit the main point of that poster; that I agree with.

This is the most rational analysis I've seen on this subject. Unlike a few of the posters, the approach is on facts as opposed to hysterics. Anytime the words stupidity and moron are used about a subject like this, you know you are dealing with a nut case poster.

Question: How many horses "died" at Del Mar during this last meet? Answer: TWELVE. Methinks the turf pundid doth protest too much...

Those horses DIED because they were EUTHANIZED due to injuries related to racing or TRAINING.

Regarding the "non-racing" fatalities which disturb you so, what do you call a staph infection contracted after a cut on the hock during a race... Or how about a horse put down six weeks after the fact for dex founder? IT'S ALL RACING RELATED, MORON.

Anyone who's been on the track for 50 years can tell you the situation is worse than ever.

What a stupid article. Read the stewards' notes if you want answers, dude. Call and ask at the racing office. One disarticulated fetlock joint is one too many.
